Care for Patients in the Operating Room

Join a team that performs successful surgeries with skill and compassion

The operating room is one of the busiest places in the hospital. Nurses must be ready to handle any situation and work under a strict schedule. At Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network, operating room nurses perform more than 28,000 surgeries every year. As an operating room nurse, you may have to share difficult news with patients and their families, which requires compassion and understanding. You also will experience tremendous satisfaction and develop extraordinary skills and knowledge.

Find flexibility at our Short Stay Hospital

In our short stay hospital at LVH-17th and Chew streets, you’ll care for patients undergoing elective surgery which requires them to stay in the hospital for one or two days. We are proud of the “hotel-like” comfort patients receive here. Patients have private rooms with their own bathroom and shower and enjoy personalized services, including an upscale food menu. There also are overnight accommodations for family members, if needed. Here, you will find flexible working hours and provide compassionate care in a very customer-service friendly environment.

Help Our Operating Rooms Run Efficiently

At LVHHN, nurses help ensure our operating rooms function efficiently without sacrificing quality. Why is an efficient operating room important? When surgeries are delayed, operating room caregivers work longer hours to ensure all scheduled surgeries occur that day. Also, patients become unnecessarily upset and anxious while their family members stare at the clock wondering what’s happening to their loved one.

We’re efficient because we communicate. If our recovery room is full, we use technology to communicate with other departments to locate available beds where patients can recover. We also identify nurses who are available to care for recovering patients in these areas. Effective communication eliminates a backlog in our operating rooms, ensuring our caregivers and patients stay as close to their schedule as possible.

We’re Growing to Meet the Needs of Our Community

The population of the Lehigh Valley is growing. To meet the health care demands associated with this growth, Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network is expanding. We’re adding four new operating rooms at LVH-Cedar Crest and two at LVH-17th and Chew strrets. In addition, we’ll be adding several new members to our surgical team.
